RMERF counts, March 22

Thursday, March 22 Mount Lorette [Day 20] (Blake Weis) NO OBSERVATION (Weather). It snowed all day and the mountains were completely obscured. Blake was at the Hay Meadow from 0745 to 1215 where he saw 2 Canada Geese, 1 Killdeer, 1 Hairy Woodpecker, 2 Common Ravens, 1 Black-capped Chickadee, 3 European Starlings and 1 male Oregon Junco; he moved to Lorette Ponds from 1225 to 1255 where he saw the season’s first Belted Kingfisher and then went to Lusk Creek at 1300 where the conditions were just as bad and decided to call it a day. The temperature was -5 at the start and was -1C at Lorette Ponds, and winds were N 0-3 km/h in the morning and gusting to 10 km/h in the afternoon

Thursday, March 22 Beaver Mines [Day 26] 0730-1600 (Peter Sherrington). The temperature was -3C at the start and -1C at 1600. Winds were light SSE-E all day and cloud cover was 100% uniform stratus. The ridge was obscured by low cloud or fog to noon but was essentially clear from 1200 to 1600 when the cloud again descended. The snow that was forecast did not finally arrive until the early evening. No raptors were seen probably as much because of the light upslope winds as the low cloud cover.
