Visitors:
60 people stopped to talk, and 9 stayed with binoculars to watch migration.

Weather:
The temperature was -4 C at the start of observation, it rose to 12, then fell to 7 at the end. Ground wind was light with a few gusts around 15 km/h in the afternoon. Ridge wind was also low, mostly below 20 with gusts only reaching 30 near the end of the day. Cloud cover was between 40 and 60% most of the time. Observing conditions were generally good to excellent.

Raptor Observations:
Migrants passed by steadily between 9:40 AM and 6:45 PM. The 1-2 PM hour had the highest count with 36. Movement was mostly low along the eastern ridges, but a few eagles and Rough-legged Hawks did use the western route. The light wind forced most raptors to flap and soar, though stronger wind in the last hour allowed some eagles to glide a bit higher up. The count was 159 Golden Eagles (54 adults, 48 juveniles, 4 sub-adults, 15 undifferentiated immature, 38 unaged), 12 Bald Eagles, 19 Sharp-shinned Hawks, 6 Rough-legged Hawks, 1 unidentified eagle and 2 small unidentified raptors. Resident raptors included an adult Bald Eagle flying north, and two Sharp-shinned Hawks that were hanging around high on the Fisher Range harassing migrating raptors.

Non-raptor Observations:
1 Ruffed Grouse, 2 Downy Woodpeckers, 1 Hairy Woodpecker, 1 Northern Shrike, 3 Canada Jays, 7 Common Ravens, 2 Black-capped Chickadees, 1 Mountain Chickadee, 3 Ruby-crowned Kinglets, 4 Golden-crowned Kinglets, 2 American Dippers, 1 American Robin, 25 Pine Siskins, 1 Dark-eyed Junco, and 1 Mourning Cloak butterfly.

Weather:
The temperature was -4C at 0745, the high was 11C at 1700 and it was 4C at 1900. Ground winds were mostly calm, occasionally light SW. Ridge winds were moderate SSW-WSW for most of the day, becoming strong between 1600 and 1700 gusting to 60km/h. Cloud cover was 20% cirrus at dawn, increasing to 80% cirrus and cirrostratus at 1100 before decreasing through the afternoon to 10% at sunset. Observing conditions were moderate in the morning becoming excellent from early afternoon.

Raptor Observations:
The count was 444 birds of 5 species between 0740 and 1855 that comprised 4 Bald Eagles (3a, 1sa,), 2 American Goshawks (1a, 1u), 5 Sharp-shinned Hawks (3a, 2u), 2a light calurus Red-tailed Hawks, 1 unknown Buteo, 430 Golden Eagles (187a, 8sa, 17j, 1ui, 217u). 6 Golden Eagles were seen before sunrise and a further 34 were seen before 0840. There was a two-hour hiatus between 0900 and 1100 when only 6 birds were counted. Numbers then increased and remained high for the rest of the day. 156 Golden Eagles were seen between 1200 and 1500 and the highest hourly count occurred between 1700 and 1800 with 82 Golden Eagles. Only a single bird was seen on the western ridges all day. In the morning, most birds were located at or near Mt Lorette before gliding over to the Fisher Range, sometimes flapping hard to maintain speed but usually dropping well below ridge level after crossing the valley. This made the locating/tracking/ageing process quite challenging. By early afternoon birds were usually seen soaring over Mt Lorette, often in loose groups of 4 to 7 eagles, before gliding high and fast over the east ridges. The last Golden Eagles were seen at 1840.

Non-raptor Observations:
Canada Geese 9, Ruffed Grouse 1, Northern Flicker 1, Northern Shrike 1, Canada Jay 3, Common Raven 15, Black-billed Magpie 2, Black-capped Chickadee 2, American Dipper 1, American Robin 100+, Red Crossbill 12

Visitors:
Only about half a dozen visitors stopped to ask about the count.

Weather:
The day was one of the coolest of the count so far, but the lack of wind made it quite pleasant. The starting temperature was 0C. It rose to 9C and was 4C at the end of the day. Ground winds were mostly calm and variable all day. Ridge winds were low, ranging from south to southwest. Upper winds were low to moderate from the west. Cloud cover was at about 75% cumulus all day, with some cirrus and altostratus building up towards the end of the day.

Raptor Observations:
The first two Golden Eagles were seen before 0900, giving hope for a good day, but seeing none for the next hour diminished those hopes. But then the flood gates opened, with a steady parade on the east ridge for the next four hours, with up to seven kettling over Lorette at a time, peaking with 37 from 1100 to 1200. There was another lull in the afternoon, but then the flight built up again in the evening, with a steady stream of 21 in the last hour, the last one seen a few minutes before sunset. Only two raptors were spotted over the west ridge. There was a decent variety of other raptors too.
The total was 160 Golden Eagles (63a, 12sa, 11ui, 11j, 63u), 5 Bald Eagles (2a, 1sa, 2j), 1 Rough-legged Hawk, 2 Sharp-shinned Hawks, 1 very late Swainson’s Hawk, 1 Peregrine Falcon.
The only non-migrant raptor was a Golden Eagle seen flying northwest over the valley.

Non-raptor Observations:
All day long we heard drumming by a Ruffed Grouse north of the site that seemed to have its seasons mixed up. The two Ruffed Grouse that hang out south of the site were silent. Complete non-raptor list: Canada Geese (heard flying south while walking in), Ruffed Grouse 3, Belted Kingfisher 1 (Male), Northern Flicker 1, Northern Shrike 1, Canada Jay 3, Common Raven 5, Mountain Chickadee 1, Black-capped Chickadee 2, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1, American Dipper 1, American Robin 4, Red Crossbill 2, Dark-eyed Junco 2, White-crowned Sparrow 1, Yellow-rumped Warbler 3

A total of 16 Visitors. A special thank you to George Halmazna who assisted with observation and aging in the morning.

Weather:
Overall ground weather conditions were reasonable with opening temperatures of 4 C and a closing temperature of 10 C at 1820 hrs. Ground winds were predominately from the NE switching to Northerly after 1400 hrs and ranging from 5-25 km/hr. Ridges winds were SSW from 40-50 with gusts to 80 km/hr. Presumably, the strong Southwesterly winds prevented a significant raptor movement. From 1700-1800 hrs rain to drizzle occurred and after the observers reached the parking lot a strong rain shower ensued.

Raptor Observations:
A total raptor flight of 17 birds was recorded for the day. The migrant flight consisted of: Golden Eagle x 13 (Adult x 8, Juvenile x 1, Unaged x 4) Northern Harrier x 1 (Unaged x 1) Sharp-shinned Hawk x 1 (Unaged x 1) Bald Eagle x 1 (Adult x 1) Red-tailed Hawk x 1 (Adult x 1)

Non-raptor Observations:
Canada Goose x 90 (two flocks 60 + 30) Belted Kingfisher x 2 Northern Shrike x 1 Canada Jay x 2 Blue Jay x 1 Black-billed Magpie x 1 Common Raven x 14 Black-capped Chickadee x American Dipper x 1 White-crowned Sparrow x 1 Yellow-rumped Warbler x 1

Visitors:
About 15 people stopped to ask about the count. Thanks to Tina for staying through the busy afternoon to help us spot the high flying eagles!

Weather:
The calm ground wind that started the day soon gave way to strong, blustery winds. Our little patch of ground is sheltered from the worst of the wind, but it was likely 40-50kph or more out in the meadow, particularly in the afternoon when the ridge winds were gusting to over 120kph. A couple of trees along the path back to the parking lot were not where they used to be, but fortunately they were not fully blocking the path. Wind at all levels was from the southwest. The ridge winds gradually built up and were near 100kph for the last three hours of the day, gusting to 136kph. Fortunately for the observers, the temperature rose as quickly as the wind, starting at 8C and going as high as 17C. It was 14C at the end of the day. A Chinook arch formed over the east ridge early in the day, but that slowly moved off to the east, and the sky was marked with cumulus clouds for the rest of the day, with about 50% coverage.

Raptor Observations:
The day was unusual in that the first hour was one of the busiest hours, with 20 Golden Eagles taking advantage of the early wind. With the high ridge winds, most were gliding along high and fast above the east ridge, a pattern that continued throughout the day. Ageing the birds was difficult due to their height and speed, and especially in the morning when the sun was behind the Chinook arch, although the clouds did help with spotting the birds. When the ridge winds were at their strongest, in the last couple of hours, very few eagles were flying. There were 121 Golden Eagles (47a, 8sa, 3j, 8ui, 55u), one Red-tailed Hawk, and one American Goshawk. No migrants were seen on the west side, and no non-migrant raptors were spotted.

Non-raptor Observations:
It was a relatively quiet day for other birds. Early on, two loons did a couple of circles over Patrick before moving on to the south. Few ravens seemed to want to play in the wind. Today the kingfisher was an adult male; a female is also in the area but didn’t make an appearance today. Here’s the complete list: Common Loon 2, Ruffed Grouse 1, Belted Kingfisher 1, Canada Jay 3, Common Raven 6, Black-capped Chickadee 4, Ruby-crowned Kinglet 2, Golden-crowned Kinglet 2, American Robin 2
