Visitors:
22 visitors walked by but only 3 people stopped to chat. Ed McCulloch stopped by with his binoculars in time for the little rain shower.
Weather:
Today started out sunny with barely a breath of a breeze and a temperature of 2 degrees. Ridge winds were 25 km /hr high winds moderately strong and just a few scattered cirrus clouds. As the day progressed, the temperature went up to 16, dropped to 10 by 18:00. The wind rose steadily on the ridges and high up, on the ground the direction changed several times and the strength varied even more. At times there gusts of wind were quite significant sending whirls of leaves to the ground. By 5 pm dark clouds covered the western sky and a very fine rain , almost mist began to fall. It did not last long, by 18:00, the wind was calm and the sun shining with no sign of dark clouds. There was a very nice rainbow with the pot of gold in the trees just east of the river.
Raptor Observations:
Unfortunately no Eagles were seen today and very few raptors. An unidentified raptor was seen, followed by an unidentified Accipiter as they both went over the Bumps and into the bright sky very backlit. Prior to these migrating birds, a pair of Coopers Hawks sailed out from Hummingbird Plume and put on a little flight display over the river returning to the trees from whence they came. Shortly after that the resident Goshawk came out flew around and later a resident Golden eagle appeared above Nakiska before going back down below the ridge.
Non-raptor Observations:
Once the wind started to pick up speed the Ravens were everywhere, over Lorette, over Nakiska, over Hummingbird plume, over the Bumps and then over the river and into the trees. It was a Raven haven day,until about 15:30 and then they went silent. The Ruffed Grouse flew across the trail first thing in the morning, a few Juncos called out along the trail, I could hear a Ruby-crowned Kinglet, saw a juvenile Sparrow Species, Yellow-rumped Warbler, 2 American Robins, 3 Black-capped Chickadees, and a Marsh Wren.
