Visitors:
We had 14 visitors to the site today and many showed great interest asking many questions.

Weather:
Mainly sunny, Low -22, High -11 plus Wind-chill factor. As I write, my bones are still trying to thaw out, even after a hot shower. I think we will win this season’s award for withstanding the coldest day. The morning actually started out calm with a slight breeze at times from the SSW. A thin layer of cirrostratus created sundogs and showered us with glittering diamonds. At 10:00, the wind direction changed to the NE and the speed gradually picked up to 10-15 km/h with gusts up to 20. All ridges were clear until 16:00 when the western ridges were progressively lost to an overpowering front. Ridge winds were moderate and from the north. The the temperature was -13 at the end of the count.

Raptor Observations:
At 12:10 the first raptor of the day, a juvenile Bald Eagle, entered flapping and gliding in a fight against the north winds on the Fisher range. It flew low across the face of Mt. Patrick and onto the valley center north. At 15:25 the first and last Golden Eagle of the day, (sub-adult), surprised us with a flight over the western ridges. After appearing above Mt. Bogart, it flapped and glided low in front of the Olympic Summit, Mt Allen, and Mt. Collembola until it reached Hummingbird plume where it soared briefly to gain height and then continued on northwards. A third migrating eagle was located passing Mt Patrick but it was only seen briefly and could not be identified. Another Bald eagle (sub-adult) was seen hunting to the south of the site and did not seem to be migrating.

Non-raptor Observations:
Black-billed Magpie 1, Canada Jay 2, Common Raven 2, Black-capped Chickadee 1, Finch sp.(probably Grey-crowned Rosy-Finch) 80.
